Processing Time Description
1-3 Days Because employment as an emergency medical dispatcher is required for certification, processing time is dependent on hiring agency.

Prerequisites and Requirements

Prerequisites

Pre-employment: High school diploma or GED; Meet minimum physical standards; Completion of agency-defined academic profieceny test; Meeting moral fitness standards.

Pre-certification: Employed by a public or private dispatch center or ambulance company; Successful completion of DPSST-approved Basic Emergency Medical Dispatcher Course; Holds current first aid/CPR certification; Completion of Code of Ethics.

8 hours annually, includes one hour of ethics training.
