Governor Kotek Responds to Supreme Court Decision to Refuse to Stay Illinois National Guard Injunction
Post Featured Image

Today, Governor Tina Kotek issued the following response to the Supreme Court’s decision to refuse to stay Illinois’s National Guard injunction:

“This decision makes clear that the President cannot ignore the rule of law; he cannot send troops into American cities under false pretenses, without legal authority, and without our consent. In Oregon, 100 service members remain in limbo. It is past time for President Trump to send them home.”

100 Oregon National Guard service members remain at station in Camps Rilea and Withycombe, under the command and control of Commander, U.S. Northern Command. Since September, Governor Kotek has consistently advocated for them to be returned to their families, community, and jobs – most recently in a December 18 letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

As held by multiple court rulings, and now affirmed by the Supreme Court, the President lacks the authority given the circumstances on the ground in Oregon to deploy troops.
