Governor Kotek Releases Statement in Response to $450 Million Grant for I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project
Today, Governor Tina Kotek released a statement in response to the announcement of a $450 million federal award from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project.
“The I-5 Rose Quarter Project is an ambitious project and this catalytic investment will relieve traffic, create new community spaces, foster innovative development and reconnect communities that were divided and cut off from economic opportunities by Portland’s transportation infrastructure. I’m grateful for the advocacy and leadership from our federal delegation in making this award happen.”
The I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project includes a highway cover over sections of Interstate 5 that will reconnect local streets and create new community spaces for future development and economic opportunities. This new cover will also include seismic upgrades, making the structure over I-5 more resilient in the event of the Cascadia earthquake.
Governor Kotek wrote a letter of support to the USDOT for the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project in September 2023.
