Governor Kotek Hosts Demobilization Ceremony
Oregon Army National Guard Citizen-Soldiers return after deployment in the Horn of Africa

Yesterday, Governor Tina Kotek led a Demobilization Ceremony at the Oregon State Library for nine soldiers of the Alpha Minus, Second Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment. The fixed-wing aviation unit deployed to the Horn of Africa on July 14, 2023 to provide general support to US Africa Command and the Combined Joint Task Force under Operation Enduring Freedom.

“More than a year ago, I wished you a safe deployment to the Horn of Africa. It was my first Mobilization Ceremony serving as your Commander-in Chief,” Governor Kotek said. “I was honored then, and I am honored now to welcome you back, safe and sound. Thank you for the time you sacrificed in service to our country. Thank you for your courage, commitment and resolve.”

The Combined Joint Task Force’s mission in the Horn of Africa is to promote regional security and stability, dissuade conflict, and protect U.S. and coalition interests in the region.
