Governor Kate Brown to Host Media Availability on Upcoming World Athletics Championships
Oregon to host the world’s most prestigious track and field event for first time in the U.S.
Press conference scheduled at 11 a.m., March 9 Governor Kate Brown will hold a press availability tomorrow, March 9, at 11 a.m., to discuss Oregon's preparations for hosting the World Athletics Championships — Oregon 22 — this summer at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. This is the first time this global event will take place on U.S. soil, bringing more than 200,000 visitors from across the globe to Oregon, including world renowned athletes, coaches, and spectators. The Governor will be joined by Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis; Niels De Vos, Chief Executive Director of Oregon 22; Richie Hunter, Vice President of University Communications for the University of Oregon; and Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon. Members of the media must RSVP by 10 a.m., March 9, by emailing the Governor's press office at Governors.Press@oregon.gov. The Governor's Office is using a Zoom-based platform for the press conference, and log-in information will be provided to reporters who RSVP. Members of the media are asked to log in a few minutes early. A livestream—with an American Sign Language simulcast—will be available for the public on YouTube.
