Governor Brown Announces Marion County Circuit Court Vacancies
Governor Kate Brown announced today that she is accepting applications for judicial vacancies on the Marion County Circuit Court created by the announced retirements of Presiding Judge Jamese Rhoades (effective December 31, 2015) and Judge Dennis J. Graves (effective October 31, 2015). Anyone interested in being considered for these vacancies must submit a Judicial Interest Form to the Governor’s office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015. A form emailed by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date will be deemed timely received so long as the original, signed form is postmarked by the closing date. Interested applicants should mail or deliver the forms to: Benjamin Souede, General Counsel, Office of the Governor, 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301-4047. Governor Brown fills judicial vacancies based on merit. She encourages applications from lawyers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. ORS 3.041 and 3.050 provide that at the time of appointment to the court, the candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Oregon and a member of the Oregon State Bar. ORS 3.041(2) further states that in judicial districts with a population of under 500,000: " provides the required length of time for the residency requirements.
