Secretary of State Dennis Richardson to Welcome New Citizens at Salem Naturalization Ceremony
To celebrate Oregon's 159th birthday, Secretary of State Dennis Richardson will host the second annual Oregon State Capitol Naturalization Ceremony. Recognizing Oregon's newest citizens in this place of honor was initiated by Secretary Richardson during his first few weeks in office in 2017. This will be the second time in state history that a naturalization ceremony has been held in the capitol building. This year's ceremony will be on February 14 at 1 p.m. in the Senate Chamber. “I'm honored to celebrate Oregon's birthday and welcome Oregon's newest citizens as they take the oath of citizenship in our state capitol,” said Secretary Richardson. “Our new citizens need to be recognized and celebrated. It is their diversity, experience, and enthusiasm that strengthens the fabric of our communities.” Secretary Richardson's first public appearance in his official capacity was at a naturalization ceremony in Portland. Multiple elected officials and community leaders will attend the event. This ceremony is open to the public and the media. It is recommended to arrive by 12:45 p.m.
