Champion Coast Redwood Tree Clone Gifted to the People of Oregon
Today, on behalf of the people of Oregon, Secretary of State Dennis Richardson and State Archivist Mary Beth Herkert accepted a redwood sapling from State Representative David Brock Smith (R-Port Orford) and the non-profit group Archangel Ancient Tree Archive. The tree is being planted on the grounds of the State Archives at 800 Summer Street in Salem.
Archangel Ancient Tree Archive is giving 100 exact genetic duplicates of some of the largest and oldest champion coast redwood trees in the world to the people of Oregon. The gifting is in partnership with the Port Orford Rotary Club. The club's 2017-18 theme is Rotary: Making A Difference. Representative Smith has given a tree to each member of the Oregon House of Representatives, the Chief Clerk's Office and The Secretary of State. State Senator Jeff Kruse (R- Roseburg) has given a tree to each member of the Senate and the office of the Secretary of the Senate, the State Treasurer and the Attorney General.
