Treasurer Steiner Urges the Administration to Keep Troops Out of Portland, Asks Residents to Stay Calm

Oregon State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner called on the Trump administration to keep federal troops out of Portland and urged residents to stay calm and peaceful in the face of the administration’s unneeded and unwanted deployment decision.

Treasurer Steiner said:

"Portland residents want a safe and peaceful community. The Trump administration’s announced decision to deploy federal troops to Portland’s streets is an unwanted, unnecessary, and provocative choice. This deployment of troops would disrupt the lives and businesses of Portland residents. I have full confidence in local and state law enforcement to maintain order and public safety in the city. I stand with Portland residents, civic leaders, business leaders, and elected officials in condemning this unlawful action. I urge Oregonians to stay calm and show the strength of our character in this moment. We will not be provoked. We will not be intimidated from going about our lives peacefully. We will stay true to our American values."
