Port of Cascade Locks Closed Beginning January 16
The Port of Cascade Locks boat launch will be closed during the week of January 16, for repairs to the toe of the ramp. During low water periods boaters “powerload” onto their trailers, displacing ramp edge protection (riprap), creating drop-offs and mounding sediment in the ramp approach area. This practice, in combination with last summer’s low water conditions, resulted in the boat ramp being closed several times and at least five boat trailers had to be towed after getting stuck at the toe of the ramp. The repair includes replacing and extending the riprap edge by approximately 10 feet. In April 2016, the Marine Board approved $18,750 in state boater funds to match $2,500 in cash, $3,070 in permitting expenses and $680 in administration, contracting and oversight of the project for a total cost of $25,000. ###
