Overnight rain helped moderate conditions on the Wrights Spring Fire as it reached 53,061 acres and six percent containment on Friday.

While the moisture improved conditions, fire officials postponed planned community briefings in Sprague River and Bonanza to prioritize initial attack readiness for potential lightning and to prepare for the memorial and procession of Jason Ensign on Saturday. The Oregon State Fire Marshal is beginning to reduce the number of structural task forces assigned to the fire to match current needs as conditions improve. Structural crews on the north side are maintaining a presence to check fire-impacted areas, while teams on the south side remain ready as surge resources for any new fire starts in the area following recent lightning.

Firefighters are focusing today on securing lines and increasing the depth of mop-up operations. In the northern sectors, crews are securing lines and removing danger trees for public and firefighter safety. To the south and southeast, personnel are mopping up along the fire's edge from Hildebrand Road to Egert Road and increasing depth from Skeen Ranch Road down to Bliss Road. Heavy equipment groups are also working to establish primary containment lines east of Swan Lake Road.

Though rain fell across the northern portion of the fire overnight, fuels are expected to dry throughout the afternoon as temperatures and winds rise. The forecast calls for increasing clouds with a chance of isolated thunderstorms and humidity levels remaining above 25 percent. Ridgetop temperatures are expected in the mid-70s, with valleys reaching the low 80s.

Multiple evacuation levels remain in effect for Klamath County. Residents can check their specific status on the Genasys Protect map. Red Cross emergency shelters are available at Chiloquin Elementary School and Living Springs Fellowship in Bonanza. Several road and area closures remain in place to support fire operations:

• Sprague River Road is closed from milepost 9 to Sprague River Drive.
• Bliss Road is closed from Petersteiner Road to Sprague River.
• The Fremont-Winema National Forest has implemented an emergency area closure.
