The lightning-caused Second Flat Fire has grown to 103,459 acres and is 18 percent contained as of Saturday morning. A total of 292 personnel are now assigned to the incident, which continues to be managed by California Interagency Incident Management Team 4. Recent weather conditions have led to increased fire activity within the perimeter. Firefighting efforts are currently focused on several areas:
- Southeast: Crews have improved containment lines near the communities of Burns and Hines using direct line construction. This area is the top operational priority today as teams work to protect these communities ahead of a predicted wind event.
- North end: Firefighters used dozers and aircraft to improve containment lines in this sector.
- East end: Personnel continue to patrol and check for hotspots along Lone Pine Road.
- Southwest: Crews are checking for remaining heat and assessing current ground conditions.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal remains on the incident following Governor Kotek's July 26 invocation of the Emergency Conflagration Act. Five structural task forces are currently deployed, working both day and night shifts to provide mutual aid and support local protection needs.
Weather and Hazards: Conditions are expected to become more challenging this weekend. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Saturday and Sunday due to predicted high winds and low relative humidity. A dry cold front arriving Saturday is expected to bring no precipitation, leaving fuels hot and very dry.
