Grand opening of fully affordable housing for wildfire survivors and residents of Lincoln City

LINCOLN CITY, Ore – Stewardship Development, Housing Authority of Lincoln County, and Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) are partnering to celebrate a new 100% affordable housing development in Lincoln City. The grand opening of Wecoma Place takes place at noon on Friday Aug. 16, 2024. The new development will provide 44 homes to Echo Mountain Fire survivors and Lincoln City residents.

"The opening of this new affordable housing development marks a significant milestone for our community,” said Karen Rockwell, executive director of the Housing Authority of Lincoln County. “It not only provides safe and secure homes for many families but also fosters a sense of hope and belonging. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our community."

The development received 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Housing Disaster Tax Credits, as well as a wildfire and General Housing Account Program grants from OHCS.

“It is an extraordinary moment. This is an example of how things can work as local and state partners come together under a common cause, in unison to deliver something important that none of us could do alone,” said OHCS Executive Director Andrea Bell. “We insist on a better future for the place we call home. A better future that centers community. A better future that sees where we can take what may feel like an improbable hope and turn it into an undeniable reality.”

Wecoma Place received eight project-based vouchers to serve very low-income families and individuals. Lincoln City granted a property tax exemption and waivers, reducing project costs and demonstrating the robust support for affordable housing by the local community.

The affordable housing development is in a prime location close to public transportation, major roadways, schools, and several shopping centers. The four-story building includes a vibrant community space, an elevator, units with energy-efficient appliances and fixtures, and onsite parking. Residents will also benefit from culturally responsive services and outreach provided by Cornerstone Community Housing as well as supportive services from the Community Services Consortium.
