Media Outreach Network Test Conducted
The Oregon Office of Emergency Management (OEM) today conducted a test of the FEMA Region X Media Outreach Network at the OEM Radio Communication Center. OEM Director Andrew Phelps provided a test message to media outlets and the public. The test occurred at 12 p.m. The FEMA Region X Media Outreach Network is a broadcast channel that has been established for the media and public during emergencies. "Using this radio network, we can share critical and timely information for life safety and the protection of property for the citizens of our state," said Phelps during the test message. FEMA Region X External Affairs, in conjunction with state amateur radio leaders and public information officers, practiced passing emergency public messages. The FEMA Region X radio operator sent a voice message to media outlets in Idaho, Oregon and Washington on the FEMA channel. Media and public are to encouraged to participate in this program by setting up amateur radio listening stations, but should not transmit on the channel. If you have questions about this program and channel frequencies please contact the OEM public information office at public.info@state.or.us for the FEMA Region X contact information.
