Valet Waste, LLC issued $13,500 penalty by DEQ for solid waste violations
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $13,500 civil penalty to Valet Waste, LLC for mixing source-separated recyclable material with solid waste at an apartment complex located at 10300 SW Taylor St., Beaverton, known as the Deveraux Glen Apartments. On multiple occasions, the company collected source-separated material generated by tenants of Deveraux Glen for recycling and mixed it with solid waste in a trash compactor.
DEQ issued the penalty because mixing source-separated material with garbage is a violation of Oregon law, and undermines Oregon's efforts to achieve positive environmental results through recycling. Recycling is an important component of Oregon's waste management, recovery and prevention program by preventing materials from being disposed in a landfill. DEQ is especially concerned with the ongoing nature of the violation.
Valet Waste, LLC has appealed the civil penalty.
