Bring unwanted paint, chemicals, and other hazardous household materials to an event in North Plains Saturday, Nov. 3 to safely dispose of the products for free. Event Details: • What: Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event • When: Saturday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. • Where: Jessie Mays Community Hall and Park, 30975 NW Hillcrest St., North Plains, OR • Sponsored by: Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the City of North Plains Accepted items (keep products in their original containers if possible): • Aerosols • Batteries • Pesticides and Poisons • Paint and Paint Thinners • Household Cleaners • Motor Oil • Antifreeze • Engine and Brake Cleaner • Transmission and Brake Fluid • Thermometers (trade in your mercury thermometer for a free digital thermometer ) • Thermostats • Mercury and mercury-containing items • Fluorescent Tubes • Polishes • Pool Chemicals • Rust Remover • Solvents • Degreasers • Automotive/Marine Paint • Wood Preservatives • Kerosene/Gas • Arts and Craft Supplies • Adhesives • Photographic Chemicals Items not accepted: • explosives • asbestos • ammunition • products that contain radioactive waste, such as many smoke detectors. DEQ will screen all products for reuse, recycling, or disposal. Reusable items will be made available for free to local residents.
