DEQ to hold informational presentation for Volkswagen settlement
Summary
Several government agencies have sued Volkswagen for manufacturing diesel-powered cars with devices that defeated emissions control equipment, causing those cars to exceed air pollution limits. Those agencies and VW have reached a partial, tentative settlement. One component of the settlement requires VW to establish a fund that states can use to pay for projects that reduce diesel engine pollution. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will lead Oregon’s actions to obtain funding and implement these projects.
