DEQ penalizes Enviromex Contracting, Inc. $3,600 for openly accumulating friable asbestos material in Amity

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has penalized Enviromex Contacting, Inc. $3,600 for openly accumulating friable asbestos material at a mobile home in Amity, Ore. The company removed approximately 800 square-feet of roof coating material at a mobile home located at 6240 Amity-Dayton Highway. The roofing material contained approximately 3 percent asbestos by weight. DEQ inspected the home Oct. 7, 2015 and found approximately 30 square-feet of roofing material scattered around the home in small pieces. This material can release asbestos fibers into the air and pose a health hazard to workers and the public. Asbestos fibers are a respiratory hazard proven to cause lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis.
