DEQ opens public comment period on pesticide general permit and sets hearing for July 6
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality opened a public comment period and set a public hearing on proposed changes to the general permit for pesticide use.
The proposal is a revision and renewal of the 2300A National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System pesticide general permit, which covers pesticide discharge to surface waters of the state. Pesticide applications covered under the permit include mosquito and insect control, weed and algae control, nuisance animal control, forest canopy control and area-wide pest control.
DEQ will hold a public hearing on the draft permit at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 in Portland, with remote locations in Bend, Pendleton and Salem. People can attend and provide comments during the hearing at the following locations:
Portland: DEQ Headquarters, 10th Floor, Conference room: EQCA, 811 SW Sixth Ave.
Bend: 475 NE Bellevue Drive, Suite 110
Pendleton: 800 SE Emigrant Ave # 330
Salem: 4026 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE
People can also submit written comments until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 8 via email to 2300A@deq.state.or.us or mail to Beth Moore, DEQ WQPPD, 811 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland Oregon 97204.
