The Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $2,200 penalty to Bright Wood Corporation for allowing fugitive sawdust emissions to blow from its mill onto the properties of neighboring businesses. The facility is located at Railroad Boulevard in Redmond. On August 12, 2015, sawdust accumulated in woodwaste bins and overfilled capacity. Sawdust then blew out the top of the bins and onto nearby properties. DEQ issued the penalty because airborne dust and wood particles can be an irritant to those who suffer from asthma or other respiratory conditions. The dust also reduces visibility and air quality. Bright Wood Corporation has until December 23, 2015 to appeal the penalty.
