DEQ issues $12,047 penalty to Diversified Marine for stormwater violations
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $12,047 civil penalty to Diversified Marine, Inc., for failing to comply with the monitoring requirements of their permit for the facility located at 1801 N Marine Dr., Portland, OR. The facility failed to monitor stormwater discharge from the facility dry docks for copper, zinc, cadmium, chromium, and nickel on two occasions in the 2014-2015 monitoring year, and for copper and zinc on four occasions in the 2015-2016 monitoring year.
DEQ issued the penalty because failing to comply with monitoring requirements is considered to be among the most serious violations. The system that protects water quality in Oregon is highly dependent upon permittees complying with the monitoring requirements of the permits. Without consistent and accurate data, DEQ and the public can’t determine whether permittees are complying pollutant limits.
