DEQ fines Williams pair for illegal disposal of solid waste
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined David John Davis and Susan Denise King Davis of Williams $3,560 for illegally collecting and storing solid waste at their Cedar Flat Road property since July 2016.
The pile of waste, which included about 89 cubic yards of household garbage, furniture, clothing and other debris, was adjacent to Williams Creek. Of the penalty, $2,360 represents the economic benefit the pair gained by failing to dispose of the waste at a permitted site.
DEQ is requiring the Davises to clean up the waste within 30 days.
It is illegal to dispose of solid waste anywhere except at a permitted disposal facility, such as a landfill or transfer station. Illegal dumps can harm property values and threaten human health and the environment.
The Davises have until July 13 to appeal the penalty.
