DEQ fines Ness & Campbell Crane for stormwater permit violations

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Ness & Campbell Crane Inc. $12,000 for failing to properly monitor stormwater at its northeast Portland facility. DEQ requires the company to monitor its stormwater for pH and other pollutants to ensure it’s complying with pollution levels allowed in its permit. The company failed to conduct required stormwater monitoring for pH twice during the 2016-2017 monitoring year. Monitoring is an important condition of the stormwater permit because it may reveal the presence of harmful pollutants that pose a threat to local waterways. Industrial pollutants in stormwater can contaminate streams, rivers and other waterways and threaten the health of Oregon’s people and environment.
