The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Corvallis MHC LLC $4,500 for wastewater violations at the Knoll Terrace Mobile Home Community. The violations occurred in April 2017 at the Corvallis mobile home park where the company operates a wastewater treatment facility. The facility discharged wastewater that hadn’t been disinfected and violated the E. coli bacteria limit in its permit. The facility also failed to monitor its discharge as required by its permit. DEQ also cited the company, without penalty, for failing to properly operate and maintain its treatment and control system. E. coli can carry disease that can harm aquatic life, contaminate drinking water and impair recreational and commercial water uses. DEQ requires monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of wastewater treatment systems. The company has until Aug. 7 to appeal the penalty.
