Renewal Information

Boat registration renewals are due beginning November 1st of the expiration year. Early renewal is not allowed.

Duplicate License Requirements

Replacement boat registration card and/or decals fees are $15.00.
Replacement boat titles with no changes are $25.00. Replacement boat titles with a change are $75.00. A lost boat title application must be signed in front of a notary public or signed and provide a copy of valid photo identification(front and back) with the application.

Processing Time

Processing Time Description
1 Month Registration renewals are generally processed within 7 to 10 days.
1 Month Processing time for title and registration may be up to 8 weeks during the busy season.

Continuing Education Requirements

All boaters are required to complete a boating safety education course who operate a motorboat with a motor over 10 horsepower (hp) and youths:
• Persons aged 12 or older are required to get a boating safety education card.
• Youths 11 and younger are not allowed to operate any sized motorboat.
• Youths 12-15 years old operating a motorboat of any size:
• Can operate a motorboat greater than 10 hp if accompanied and in direct supervision by a person 16 or older (18 or older for a personal watercraft (PWC)) with a boating safety education card.
• Can operate a motorboat of 10 hp or less with a boating safety education card and without an adult.
A person 16 or older are required to get a boating safety education card to operate a motorboat (including a PWC) greater than 10 hp.

New Boat Owners:
• Must have a boating safety education card or a 30-day temporary certificate of completion before operating on Oregon's waters, or
• Have their states boating education card or valid temporary certificate.

Out-of-State Boaters:
• Requires out-of-state boaters to carry their states' boating education card when operating a motorboat with a motor greater than 10 hp.
• If the state doesn’t require mandatory boating education, but have courses available, boat operators will need to take their states NASBLA approved education course and purchase their states education card or take Oregon’s mandatory boating education course and purchase the Oregon card before operating on Oregon waters.

Boat insurance is not required by law in Oregon. (But it is recommended)
