Description
Veterinary Technicians assist veterinarians in the treatment of animals, usually in animal hospitals and clinics. The skills may be learned in a two-year community college program. Veterinary Technicians are granted a certification upon meeting the requirements for licensure.

Examination Information
Applicants must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). This test is administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. VTNE application and information is available at www.aavsb.org. Applicants who have passed the VTNE at any time in the past do not need to retake this test for licensure in Oregon. Applicants who registered for the VTNE through Oregon do not need to have their scores transferred. Once the application form and fee have been received and screened, the Jurisprudence Exam/Regional Disease Test will be provided to the applicant. Application fees are non-refundable; please review the eligibility requirements carefully before you apply.
Continuing Education Requirements
15 hours every two years.

This varies depending on the time it takes for applicants to obtain and submit all required documentation. Once an application is complete, processing time for agency staff is 5-7 days.
