Description
The Department issues certification cards for Testers and Specialists on a 2-year certification cycle. Certifications expire on December 31st every two years based upon the first letter in the last name of the individual. Individuals with a last name beginning with A-K expire in even numbered years, and individuals with last names beginning with L-Z expire in odd numbered years.
A-K If we are in an EVEN year, the fee is $97.50, and it will expire 12/31 this year.
A-K If we are in an ODD year, the fee is $195.00, and it will expire 12/31 next year.
L-Z If we are in an EVEN year, the fee is $195.00, and it will expire 12/31 next year.
L-Z If we are in an ODD year, the fee is $97.50, and it will expire 12/31 this year.
Duration
Two years to a few months.
Renewal Information
Individual renewal applications are mailed to all currently certified Testers in October of every year. Testers must take a 1 or 2 day Backflow Assembly Tester Refresher course every two years. The only exception to this is when a tester is renewing for the first time. Testers must submit copies of their last two gauge calibration reports.

Prerequisites
A high school diploma (a transcript is acceptable), GED, Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD.
Required Documentation
If you are providing backflow tester services for a few you must have a CCB or LCB license.
Examination Information
Successful completion of an approved Backflow Assembly Tester course (5 days) within 12 months of submitting a certification application.
Continuing Education Requirements
Testers must take a 1 or 2 day Backflow Assembly Tester Refresher course every two years. The only exception to this is when a tester is renewing for the first time.
