Description

Registered Geologists (RG) are registered professionals who have met the requisite qualifications to publically practice geology. They are experienced in study of the composition, structure, and history of the Earth, including the geosphere and hydrosphere. This work involves understanding internal and external surface processes operating over geologic time scales ranging from tens to billions of years. A RG applies knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics to explain these phenomena, test hypotheses, and develop models. The application of this work is used to locate and develop natural resources (e.g. minerals, building materials, metals, petroleum, coal, surface and groundwater); identify geologic hazards (e.g. earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, floods, landslides, unstable ground); evaluate the impact of human activities on environmental quality; and prepare geologic reports and maps.
