Description

Certification of individuals and firms engaged in lead-based paint inspection, risk assessment, abatement and renovation in housing or child-occupied facilities built before 1978. “Lead-based paint activities” means inspection, risk-assessment, project design, and/or abatement. “Renovation” means any renovation, repair, and/or painting projects that disturb painted surfaces on housing or child-occupied facilities built before 1978.

Duplicate License Requirements

For Lead-Based Paint Activities (abatement, inspection, risk assessment), individuals and firms are additionally required to obtain the equivalent licenses from the Construction Contractors Board. The exceptions are units of government (public sector organizations) and their employees if they work only in a public sector capacity.

Processing Time Description
1 Month Thirty days from the time a complete application is received.

Prerequisites and Requirements

Prerequisites

Lead-Based Paint Activities: Successful completion of required accredited lead-based paint activities training, in addition to educational or experience requirements set forth in OAR 333-069.

Required Documentation

Lead-Based Paint Activities: Initial application and documentation of required training, education, and experience. Recertification: Recertification application and copy of current training certification.

Examination Information

Course Examination:

All persons seeking certification must take and pass course examinations.
• The exam is comprised of a minimum 50 multiple-choice questions
• Passing the exam requires a score of 70 or more.

State Examination:

In addition, Risk Assessor, Supervisor, and Inspector applicants must pass an exam administered by the Oregon Health Authority.
• The exam is comprised of up to 115 multiple-choice questions
• Applicants have 3 hours in which to complete the exam
• Passing the exam requires a score of 70 or higher.


Renovation, Repair and Painting:

Course Examination:
• The course exam is comprised of 25 multiple-choice questions.
• Passing the exam requires a score of 70 or higher.

Continuing Education Requirements

Lead-Based Paint Activities: Refresher training every 3 years.
Renovation, Repair and Painting: Refresher course every 5 years.
